Despite hostilities, northern exports flow
Federal authorities are sending crude through the Kurdistan export pipeline and into Turkish port storage under KRG control - a sign of rare cooperation at a time of explosive political friction.A worker checks the valve gears of pipes linked to oil tanks at Turkey's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, which is run by state-owned pipeline company Botas. KIRKUK - Iraq's state-run North Oil Company (NOC) has resumed pumping into regional refineries, the export pipeline controlled by the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and into storage at the port of Ceyhan that has thus far remained under KRG administration.
While the status quo may be untenable for long, the renewed flows signal that, despite political conflicts that recently exploded into open warfare, leaders in the federal government and KRG are at least willing to cooperate when it comes to oil.
