BAGHDAD - When Oil Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi stepped back from his day-to-day responsibilities a month ago, he handed over all authority to a senior deputy who was already tasked with spearheading key industry initiatives.
Now serving in a role that effectively makes him the acting oil minister, Fayadh Nema has seen some early successes. On Sunday, Nema announced a deal with GE to provide technical and equipment training and support that will help modernize the ministry's ability to audit productivity and increase options for turning associated gas into fuel for power generation.
