Sonangol considering return to Iraq

Three years after security problems forced them out, Iraq is courting the Angolan state firm back to the Qayarah and Najmah fields.

Sonangol executives are considering whether – and when – to return to two oil projects south of Mosul, long plagued by security problems, which the company left just before the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group launched its invasion of much of northern Iraq.

Earlier this week in Baghdad, Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luiebi met a Sonangol delegation led by Executive Administrator Edson dos Santos.
