BASRA/AMARA - Deputy Oil Minister Ali Maarij has temporarily taken charge of Iraq’s day-to-day oil operations, as Oil Minister Hayyan Abdulghani remains hospitalized in the U.S. following a health emergency.
In a statement published on Oct. 6, Maarij said he had been authorized by a state order to exercise “all of the administrative and financial powers granted to the minister” while Abdulghani is absent.
“We ask God that he returns to the homeland safe and sound to continue his duties,” Maarij said.
