Baghdad slow-walks court fight on KRG oil policy

Prime Minister Abd al-Mahdi has again delayed a key legal filing, signaling an apparent desire to settle long-standing disputes through political negotiation rather than court battles.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi has once again declined to put his signature on a legal argument against the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) oil policy – a further sign that his administration is creating space for a political resolution to long-standing disputes.

Abd al-Mahdi's delay has now twice caused Iraq's Federal Supreme Court to postpone a decision in a landmark case in which it has been asked to adjudicate arguments about how to draw the lines of authority over the country's oil sector.
