Bai Hassan field recovering slowly from IS attacks
The Bai Hassan south station is back online, but key infrastructure remains damaged and a well fire is still blazing after two IS attacks in July and early August. The Bai Hassan South gas-oil separation plant in the Sargaran sub-district of Kirkuk province, Aug. 25, 2015. KIRKUK - Engineers have resumed production at a station of the Bai Hassan oil field that had been taken offline in an attack by militants from the so-called Islamic State (IS) group at the end of July.
The re-start provides badly needed production for the cash-strapped Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which depends overwhelmingly on oil exports to support its budget and service billions of dollars in debt.
