BASRA - Iraq's economic capital continues to suffer from intensifying violence, as at least four people have been killed and three have been kidnapped in the past week.
The Iraqi government shifted security forces out of the province in June, to combat the threat posed in the north by the so-called Islamic State (IS) organization. The resulting security vacuum has allowed Shia militias and criminal gangs to thrive.
