Bloody Baghdad day won’t deter oil auction

The Iraqi government and officials from foreign oil companies looking to land deals this weekend won't postpone or change the venue of the auction after Tuesday's bombings.

Iraq's Oil Police and Oil Ministry officials said security precautions have been weeks in planning, and are confident it can provide safe cover for a major auction of oil fields this Friday and Saturday, days after Baghdadis were shook by five bombs that killed at least 127 people and wounded at least 500.

On Tuesday, four car bombs and a fifth that may have been a suicide vest bomb targeted police checkpoints and other populated areas around Baghdad, including ministry and government offices relocated after the earlier attacks.
