Erbil power project halted after attack on foreign contractors
A dispute with a Kurdish sub-contractor ignites into violence, as attackers smash vehicles and work stops at the nearly completed, 300 megawatt Khabat power plant.

ERBIL - Work on one of Kurdistan’s major new power plants has stopped after a Jan. 6 attack that was sparked by a commercial dispute between foreign companies and a local Kurdish subcontractor.
"Some individuals attacked the companies that are constructing Khabat thermal power power plant," said Rizgar Mustafa Muhammed, mayor of Khabat sub-district. "As a result, the companies have halted operations on the site.”
