Iraq-Kuwait border field meeting set for Tuesday

Border fields a longtime dispute between Iraq and Kuwait - and Iran and Syria - and ongoing talks between the neighbors are part of slow post-war process.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi and Kuwaiti officials were to meet here Tuesday to discuss the ongoing dispute over the rights to develop fields that do or could cross the international boundary.

The topic is packed with frustration for Iraq. Kuwait is still holding a grudge from the 1990 invasion, cold to many diplomatic ties and refusing to eliminate Saddam-era bills. The late dictator blamed Kuwait's alleged siphoning of Iraqi oil as a reason for the invasion. Iraq pays five percent of its oil revenue to a U.N. administered victims compensation fund.
