Iraq has promoted former South Oil Company chief Fayadh Hassan Nima to be the deputy oil minister for downstream, the first of many changes to be made to the leadership within the Oil Ministry as age limits force skilled staff into retirement.

Nima now is tasked with moving forward plans to expand Iraq's refining sector. He replaces Ahmad Shamma, whose portfolio has also included both the Basra Gas Company project, a joint venture between Shell, Mitsubishi and the South Gas Company, as well as the Iraqi Crude Oil Export Expansion Project, which has seen two of the five single point mooring systems installed for export.
