Iraqi forces liberate key oil town near Mosul
IS militants leave behind dozens of dead civilians, a trashed refinery complex, and a town choked by oil fires.

ERBIL - Iraqi security forces retook the oil town of Qayarah on Tuesday, an important if incremental step toward liberating Mosul from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group.
"It is going well, as it was planned," said Sabah Numan, a spokesman for Iraq’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), which took part in the offensive. "There has been big, rapid progress."
