NASSIRIYA - It took 48 hours for the Nassiriya oil field and nearby Dhi Qar refinery to come back online after a surge of protesters cut off shift workers and forced a temporary shut-down.
The Oil Ministry has pursued a largely non-confrontational approach throughout Iraq’s three-month protest movement, negotiating with demonstrators who are demanding employment opportunities and attempting to avoid the kind of violence that has afflicted Iraq’s public squares, which has functioned to magnify popular outrage.
