New brigade to protect Basra oil companies
A new Oil Police brigade has formed to guard foreign oil companies in Basra, partly in response to a rash of tribal and gang-related violence in recent months.

BASRA - A new Oil Police brigade has formed to guard foreign oil companies in Basra, partly in response to a rash of tribal and gang-related violence in recent months.
The new brigade has 1,000 members, according to Basra Gov. Majid al-Nasrawi and a senior Oil Police official in Basra. Half come from Basra, 330 from Baghdad, and the rest from other parts of southern Iraq.
