New violations at the Interior Ministry

Last month an armed gang broke into a number of gold shops in al-Tobaji area in central Baghdad, stealing more than 32 kilograms of gold and killing seven Sabean jewellers.

The incident was not the first of its kind in the country. However, the involvement of five Iraqi police members in the armed robbery, according to investigation results, has renewed fears regarding the participation of security forces in criminal activities. With the country about to assume full security from U.S forces this apprehension is growing.
