Oil workers nabbed in Kirkuk – UPDATE

Kidnappings latest violence in tense area with billions of barrels of oil at stake and Arab vs. Kurd dispute over control of the territories.

BAGHDAD - The separate but seemingly connected simultaneous kidnappings of Iraqi oil workers from the streets of Kirkuk Monday morning is a reminder of the remaining threat in this oil-rich country that has seen a decrease in violence in the past year.

Mass bombings in August and October is proof there's still trouble for the Iraqi people. In the all-important oil industry - which was born in Kirkuk 80 years ago - the people and infrastructure remain at risk.
