Q&A: Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, head of oil contracts

BAGHDAD - As the leader of the Oil Ministry's Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate (PCLD), Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi has proudly built a track record of negotiating deals that maximize revenue for Iraq and squeeze the margins of its corporate partners.

His hard-line posture has helped the ministry ink contracts that look so good for the government that some major industry players have avoided Iraq altogether – despite the size of the opportunity – while others have chosen to limit their footprint in Iraq.
