Q&A: Ali Salman Majeed, deputy director general of South Gas Company
A top gas official discusses developments with TotalEnergies, Basra Gas Company, and other projects aiming to end flaring and produce enough products to expand exports.
BASRA - The South Gas Company (SGC) is involved in many of Iraq’s major hydrocarbon priorities: reducing gas flaring, turning that wasted gas into products for local consumption, and enabling the excess to be exported to add to the country’s revenues.
SGC is overseeing several projects designed to capture associated gas that is produced along with crude oil at several southern oil fields, including the gas component of the TotalEnergies-led Gas Growth Integrated Project; and SGC is also the majority partner in the Basra Gas Company consortium, along with Royal Dutch Shell and Mitsubishi.
Ali Salman Majeed is the SGC’s first deputy director general and the director of its production commission. He spoke with Iraq Oil Report to give progress updates and target dates for ending flaring from southern fields and expanding capacity across multiple projects.
