Q&A: Montaser Kadhim Haloub, director of SCOP’s Southern Projects Authority

BASRA - One of Iraq’s most politically consequential energy projects is the so-called “Challenge Project”: a pipeline that could facilitate gas supply to fuel electricity generation this summer and offset the potential loss of Iranian imports.
It’s a collaboration between the State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) and the South Gas Company (SGC), with Oil Ministry support from Baghdad — and it’s one of a handful of projects in the portfolio of Montaser Kadhim Haloub, the director of SCOP’s Southern Projects Authority.
