Qaiyarah well burning, spewing toxic gas
After attacks on both the Qaiyarah and Najmah oil fields, at least one well is burning while hydrogen sulfide gas threatens cleanup crews, local residents, and the environment.

Authorities in Ninewa province are trying to contain a fire at the Qaiyarah oil field, operated by Angola's Sonangol, more than two weeks after an April 5 attack.
The burning oil at Qaiyarah is emitting dangerous levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), according to multiple officials familiar with the field's operations. The toxic gas is endangering nearby residents and complicating efforts to put out the fire.
