SULAIMANIYA - Violent protests have broken out in Sulaimaniya province, as Kurdistan's insolvent government falls farther behind in paying public sector salaries.
On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters threw rocks at police and set tires on fire in the town of Said Sadiq, according to Araz Osman, an eyewitness. Rioters also torched the local office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which is headed by Massoud Barzani, the acting president of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
