Violent protests reignite in Iraq’s oil capital

BASRA - Deadly fighting has broken out between protesters and security forces in Iraq's oil capital, as demonstrators are again targeting oil fields as a means to pressure the government into addressing long-standing grievances.
Rioters lobbed hand grenades at police and set fire to military vehicles Tuesday in downtown Basra, according to a local security official. As many as eight protesters have been killed and dozens of protesters and members of the security forces were injured, according to provincial security and hospital officials.
